“Not now, buddy.” Statics

One story in two frames: the email that won over a moment with your kid, then the evening that says yes. The plates are the approved WC-NOTNOW pair (the board in the answer is an edit of a real Wizard photo); the full-frame versions are the same photos extended up and down, with the original pixels kept. 9:16 text stays inside the TikTok and Reels safe area.

Every “not now” is small. They add up to a kid who stops asking. Tonight, say yes to one game. The board lights every move, so you don’t need to know chess.

“He only asks so many times.”

Camera
Every shot moves: slow push-ins, a gentle pull-out when the warm evening opens, a slow pan to the empty spot, a slight roll on the close-ups.
Transitions
Soft dissolves inside each beat, a short dip to black between beats, a slow dissolve from the blue couch to the warm one. The captions fade in and out.
0–4.8 s
The ask: dad on the laptop, the boy’s smile fades, he lowers the box and leaves.
4.8–7.9 s
His room: he lies down, then his face on the pillow, eyes open.
7.9–10.4 s
Dad: the laptop light leaves his face, he looks up at the empty spot.
10.4–14.7 s
The warm evening: laughing, the boy’s hand moving a piece on the lit board (from the real-board plate).
14.7–17 s
End card: GoChess Wizard, “Say yes tonight”, WB legal line.

Music B

Difference
New takes for the longer cut. B fades out early, so the end card is almost silent; A (above) dips just before the turn and lifts on the warm shot.

Why no 9:16 split

Two stacked photos in a vertical frame come out too small, and the kid lands under the app buttons. In vertical placements the story runs as frame 1 then frame 2.

Test plan

Split vs carousel vs timeline in the same ad set, same audience, 3 to 5 days. Then the winning format with 2 hooks: “He only asks so many times.” and “Not now, buddy.”

Before launch

Harry Potter creative approval (licensed product). Label as AI-generated imagery where the platform requires it (the family is generated). WB legal line is on every image.
